Gift of Stock
A gift of stock can be a mutually beneficial way for you to support our work. If you own stock or other securities that have appreciated since you acquired them, you may face capital gains taxes when you sell them. When you choose to donate your stock to Shenandoah Valley Conservancy (a non-profit organization), neither you nor the organization must pay capital gains tax, meaning that the Conservancy receives the full value of your stock, and you can receive a charitable deduction for the full market value of your gift.
For more information about gifts of stock, email [email protected] or call 540-886-3541.
Please let us know your gift is coming by emailing [email protected], as it will help us acknowledge it promptly.
Shenandoah Legacy Society
By making a planned gift, you ensure that Shenandoah Valley Conservancy will continue its critical work for years to come. Some planned gifts will provide income during your lifetime while others will help transfer assets and reduce or eliminate tax burdens.
Some methods by which you may leave a lasting legacy to the Conservancy include:
- Remember the Conservancy in your will. You may name the Conservancy as a beneficiary in your will and may specify a particular purpose to be supported through a bequest (e.g., establish a memorial fund, endowment fund, or program fund) or you may wish to designate its purpose as unrestricted. If you place the Conservancy in your will, please let us know so that we may thank you now and add your name to the Conservancy’s Shenandoah Legacy Society.
- Designate the Conservancy as a beneficiary. You may designate the Conservancy as a beneficiary of your employer-provided retirement plan, IRA, life insurance policy, or bank account.
- Provide life-income gifts. A charitable remainder trust (CRT), managed by a trustee of your choice (e.g., a bank trust department), will provide a way of giving to the Conservancy while you retain an income stream for life. When the trust ends, the principal will pass to the Conservancy to fund a purpose selected by you as the donor.
Other methods to contribute to Shenandoah Valley Conservancy are also available. To determine the most favorable method of support, we encourage you to consult with your financial and legal advisors.
Corporate Giving
We welcome the opportunity to develop corporate partnerships as a way to support, enhance, and complement our mission. Companies with a solid history and a strong brand image, as well as sound environmental practices and values compatible with the Conservancy’s mission, are invited to become valued members of our coalition.
Whether a corporation funds an initiative directly related to its core business or an issue that the company and its employees find meaningful, we will work to ensure that each philanthropic contribution supports lasting conservation solutions to benefit the agricultural, cultural, and natural resources of the greater Shenandoah Valley region.
You may also wish to adopt one of our numerous events and programs throughout the year as a key contribution.
